Hi,
Congrats ! Excellent plug-in ! I thought I would never find something like this.
I’ve tested to upload some pictures. Is there a size limitation ? I need the original images to be downloaded, without any compression.
Thank you !
To upload photos at their original size simply uncheck the Resize to Fit box. However, you still need to specify Resolution – leave it at 96 pixels per inch.
I believe MobileMe has a limit of 6 MB per photo. Currently, the plug-in doesn’t automatically check if a file exceeds the limit, but I will include this in the next update.
Thanks for your answer ! The Resize to Fit box was unchecked. The dimensions of the photo in pixels remain the same, but the file size is much lower. Is the file compressed by your plug-in or by MobileMe ? When I upload a picture from the MobileMe App in my browser, the file isn’t compressed. Where does this difference com from ?
The plug-in doesn’t compress images. If you chose specific dimensions then Lightroom would resize your photos while rendering JPEGs from your originals. If the Resize to Fit is unchecked then rendered JPEGs would remain at their original pixel dimensions. How can you tell if there is a difference in file size between a photo uploaded through the plug-in and the same photo uploaded through the MobleMe App? Could you provide specific details?
PS: You might want to reply to alloyphoto@alloyphoto.com so we don’t clutter comments with our dialogue. I’ll post a summary when we find what’s causing the difference.
This is just what I was looking for! It works great!
One question? Do you have plans to include the options of allowing downloads in the mobileme gallery (either single image or whole gallery)?
Dave, please clarify what you mean. Once photos are exported and uploaded to the MobileMe Gallery they are in Apple’s hands – you can only access them through the gallery interface, and I don’t believe there’s an option to download. On the other hand, why would you want to download – you still have your originals in Lightroom.
When you create an album from iPhoto, Aperture or the MobileMe App in your browser, you can specify if the visitor of your gallery can download the photos or the entire album. You can also choose if your album is visible on the gallery home page or even protect an album with a password.
I think that David means it would be very cool to have this options in your plug-in and indeed it would be 🙂
To enable the download function of your photos once on the mobile me gallery, until the update is available on this plugin, just go into your Me account > Photos and adjust settings. You can add the download function in there.
Thanks for the great plug-in. Looking forward to the updates you’ve mentioned.
Hi Vlad,
seems to be a great plugin … if I finally get it running 😉
The problem is the following: I installed the plugin corectly, which isn’t the licensed one yet (as I would asume) but when tempting to log into to my mobile.me account I receive the foolowing eror:
Error code: 0
Unable to establish connection with the remote server.
What’s the problem, or better: how can I solve the obvious problem?
Thanks for your help.
Greetings from Germany
Johannes
Please generate and e-mail me the debug log as explained in the “Support” section of the plug-in home page: http://alloyphoto.com/plugins/mobileme-gallery-lightroom-plugin/.
Thanks for adding the download options for new galleries. Now I don’t have to open iphoto at all. Perfect!
Keep up the good work!
Hi Vlad,
Thanks for your work ! The plugin gets better every week !
But I have one more feature request. Is it possible do add an option to choose the profile. Now the plugin exports by default in sRGB, in some cases I would prefer Adobe RGB.
Cheers
Julien
For the last month or so I have been working on the new version to integrate the plug-in with the new Publish Services API, which will be introduced in LR3, and my plug-in will support it. You will need to install an update, however you won’t need to re-purchase.
Version 1.16 does not support Publish Services. I am waiting for Adobe to resolve the issue with Lightroom 3.0 for Mac. Once this has been squared away I am going to release a new version of the plug-in (1.17?) with added support for Publish Services and a couple of new exciting features.
The plug-in is already compatible with Lightroom 3, as outlined in the System Requirements section above. Yes, it doesn’t work yet in Lightroom 3 for Mac for most users, but this will remain so until Adobe fixes the bug causing authorization failures in LR 3.0 for Mac (again, explained above).
What exactly did you have in mind?
I have a new Mac Mini (2010) running OS X 10.6.4 and Lightroom 3 trial (64-bit) and the plug-in to MobileMe is working fine. I will purchase if this is correct. Why do you say it won’t work in this environment, or what am I missing?
There are some options on the export I can’t choose, like Gallery Options to sort photos, but other than that it’s working.
Thanks!
FYI MobileMe supports password protected albums published from iPhoto or Aperture.
Bob,
What I have seen happening in the past, the plug-in would work once or twice with no issue, then it starts giving the “Unexpected server response” error. Overall, this bug causes a very intermittent behavior.
I would suggest trying to log in and upload pictures a few times more before you make your purchasing decision. Otherwise, I would recommend simply waiting for the next Lightroom update – supposedly, the bug will be fixed there.
PS: iPhoto and Aperture use a different method of uploading photos, this is probably why the MobileMe web interface doesn’t have this feature, and so doesn’t my plug-in.
I kept getting the message that I couldn’t upload more than 10 photos, so I purchased for $15. Not a big deal. I occasionally see the Unexpected server response error, but try to login again and it seems to work and I can upload.
Thanks for continued development on this and I hope Adobe fixes whatever they need to fix for us.
Your plugin might be just what I need to choose and buy Lightroom over buggy Aperture 3. I’m evaluating both and so far Lightroom in a couple hours has impressed me with it’s stability much more than Ap3.
Just bought your plugin. Nice setup and good work. BUT if it keeps striping all my exif from my photos its really useless. The main reason to buy this was to make it talk with my ipad and iphoto, without duplicating my photos. I GEO tag all my photos and also miss the caption. Are you working on a fix for this?
Hello Vlad, Im having a similar problem as Sofus. When I export the photos to MobileMe, the photo titles are not displaying underneath the photo after the have been uploaded and published. I made sure the box for “minimize metadata” was NOT selected. Please advise…
Thank you! I have been able to reproduce and fix this issue with stripped photo titles in version 1.18.3, now available for download.
Although I must say, Sofus had a different issue – he was saying the entire metadata got somehow stripped. I re-tested, and the metadata remains intact, unless you select the Minimize Metadata box in the Export dialog.
Seems logical but I cannot make it work. I still get a mixture of titles and filenames.
Thanks
Ian, please e-mail me with a screenshot of the template settings and the resulting photo properties in the MobileMe gallery, so that I can understand where exactly things go wrong.
Thanks for the great job you’ve done here and the well-understand instructions! I am glad that there is this program. It helps me with my future projects. The upgrade and the activation was done quickly (Mac OS X, Vers. 10.6.4 / Adobe LR3 Vers. 3.2)!
Thanks again 🙂
Hi there, thanks for a great plug-in – it is a real timesaver…
There is one small issue though, and I take it that it might not be an issue at all and that I am just doing something wrong – when I upload photos to my MobileMe gallery – the preview image does not “skim” if you mouse over it – any ideas?
Take a look at http://gallery.me.com/danijelmihajlovic#gallery – galleries up to and including Goran BREGOVIC were exported via iPhoto and their previews “skim”, the later ones were exported using the plug-in and their previews, well, do not “skim”…
Thx a lot,
Danny
You are right, this is not really an issue, it’s rather a feature available only when you upload through iPhoto or Aperture. The things is, when those two products upload a photo they render a special multi-framed image for the scrolling thumbnail. With Lightroom, we are limited to only one rendition, the one you specify in the export settings dialog, so there is no way to generate additional thumbnails on the fly, let alone concatenate them into a multi-framed JPEG.
If, however, one day I find a solution, I’ll definitely implement it. I agree, it’s a nifty feature.
Hey vlad,
thanx for the great plugin – keep up the great work!
i have just one question: if i choose “publish” instead of “export” i don’t have the possibility to chose for overriding the mobileme sorting – so i always use exporting while i think publishing would be much more comfortable – if it would be with the option of overriding. can you help me with this?
thank you in advance
sebastian
Hi Sebastian,
When you use “publish”, the sort order is enforced automatically to keep your published album in sync with the filmstrip in Lightroom, this is why there is no such option for manual control. Just keep in mind, your online album may get out of sync if you also use other methods to manage your photos, i.e. if you “export” to a published album, or use the web admin interface to upload or re-order photos in your album.
The rule of thumb here is simple – published albums are online representations of Lightroom collections, they must be managed through Lightroom to stay in sync.
Hey Vlad!
Love your plugin, and it is a real nice one this. It saves me alot of hassle with iPhoto and stuff like that. I have just one question I’ve been troubleing with lately, I had to reinstall Lightroom, and install the plugin again. Now the plugin didn’t show any albums, but they are still in mobileme luckily. Here comes the “problem”: I had to get the pictures from mobileme, down to my computer, and upload them again to make it work, is it possible to make an option to make this plugin look for already established albums, and pictures, so it can “update” itself in lightroom? In that way I have full control of my albums and can run everything from lightroom.
Thanx, and again, a very good job with this one!
Hi Vlad,
I seem to have the same issue as Kent. I’d like to be able to sync or display some albums I had in MobileMe Gallery before I started using your plugin. It would be great if the plug-in could look for established albums, add them to the MobileMe Publish Service in Lightroom.
Thanks.
Hallo Vlad,
Ted
Hi Jack,
You can remove photos using the admin interface of MobileMe. You can also re-export photos with the “replace” option.
Or if you are using Publish Services, simply photos should become automatically marked for re-publish when you modify their title or caption in the Metadata panel. Simply click Re-Publish and your changes will be uploaded to MobileMe.
Hi, probably because MobileMe does not have a way to show that information. Otherwise all metadata is transferred over and should be stored in the JPEG image.
In fact, MobileMe does not show IPTC metadata, only EXIF, this is why Copyright and Author fields are not visible.
